Crowds of onlookers filled the streets of New York on Thursday as colorful balloons voladores marked the beginning of the Christmas season in the parade of Thanksgiving Day department store Macy’s.
Mostly sunny skies and a light breeze are forecast for the annual tradition, which goes back nearly a century.

In the parade this year there will be 16 balloons giants, 28 floats, 40 innovative and heritage inflatables, 12 music bands, 10 acting groups, 700 clowns and a Santa Claus.
The singer Paula Abdul will join the procession of characters, in her first appearance in the parade; indie pop band Fitz and the Tantrums; boy band Big Time Rush; the host of “Blue’s Clues & You!” Josh Dela Cruz; the singer Gloria Estefan; gospel singer Kirk Franklin; actor Mario Lopez; reggae star Ziggy Marley; and Miss America 2022, Emma Broyles.
Singers Joss Stone, Jordin Sparks and Betty Who will also take part in the festivities, as will “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” stars Adam Devine, Sarah Hyland and Flula Borg. Jimmy Fallon & The Roots will be on a float celebrating Central Park.
