The Netherlands is preparing for the match against Ecuador, which is likely to decide the first place in the group. Louis van Gaal gave the usual pre-match press conference. But one moment was enough for the 71-year-old technician to be pleasantly surprised.
A young journalist from Senegal “enslaved” him to be precise. He asked for the reason to ask his question. But he didn’t want that. He just wanted to tell the experienced Dutch technician that he has admired him since he was three years old!
“I’m a young journalist just starting out. I don’t have a question for you. It’s just an opportunity to tell you that I’ve been your fan since I was three years old,” were the words of the young Senegalese.
Van Gaal was surprised but these words touched him. He smiled and replied, “I’m going to give you a big hug later because I think it’s actually great that you said that. Honestly people don’t often say these things to me, I’ll give you a big hug.”
Once the press conference was over, Van Gaal beckoned the Senegalese over to him and did give him a big hug to thank him. Dumfries, who was also at the press conference, began to applaud.
