Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates fears that the developments in Ukraine will reduce the financial aid that African countries receive. This was reported by Reuters.

The billionaire touched on this topic during his visit to Kenya, where the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation plans to open a regional office. European budgets have been hit hard by the fighting in Ukraine, Gates said, so Western aid to the poorest countries is unlikely to increase.

“If we get all the aid, including climate-related aid, then we’re looking at a couple of years when it’s likely to taper off,” the billionaire told reporters.

On November 17, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced its intention to send seven billion dollars (about 425 million rubles) to help African countries over four years. This is a 40 percent increase over the previous four-year period. Funds will be used to fight hunger, disease, poverty and gender inequality.
