On Sunday morning, a downtown hotel was damaged by a rocket attack in Kherson. According to Russian media, the film crew of the Russian TV channel RT was staying at the hotel, none of the journalists were injured. At the same time, it is reported that two people lost their lives from the bombings. One of them is a former member of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksiy Zhuravko.
Zhuravko was elected to the Verkhovna Rada by the “Party of Regions”. He started his political career as an activist for the rights of people with disabilities (he himself was born without one arm and with leg deformities).
In December 2020, Zhuravko moved to Russia. The Security Service of Ukraine suspects Zhuravka of creating a terrorist organization.
When Russian troops occupied the Kherson region, Zhuravko returned to Kherson. The former MP called on Russia to implement an economic blockade of Ukraine and advocated the “azizification” of the entire Ukrainian territory.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the shelling of Kherson and the death of Zhuravko.
