Russian presidential spokesman Dmytro Peskov said that Vladimir Putin ordered the government to find out the cause of the fire at the Crimean (Kerchen) bridge on the morning of October 8, according to Russian media.
“The president instructed the prime minister to form a government committee to find out the causes of the incident and eliminate the consequences as soon as possible. It will also include the heads of the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea, representatives of the Russian Guard, the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” Peskov said.
Meanwhile, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee of the Russian Federation announced that a truck was blown up on the Crimean bridge. As the head of the Russian administration of Sevastopol Mykhailo Razvozhaev reported, “this led to the explosion of seven fuel tanks of the railway depot, two car spans of the bridge partially collapsed.”
At the moment traffic on the Crimean bridge is completely closed, the fire is being extinguished.
Vladimir Konstantinov, the Kremlin-appointed head of Crimea’s parliament, said the pavement on the Crimean bridge had been damaged by “Ukrainian vandals”.
There are no official reports of involvement of the Ukrainian side in the situation.
